The Train From Plymouth edition by Maurice Barkley David Taylor Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Very entertaining read. recommended
The story was quick and interesting in the in the Doyle way, it has all the elements of a true Sherlock Holmes adventure.
I like a good puzzle, but not when information is not forthcoming as worthwhile clues. However, when thd clues are three years old, much can be forgiven. Holmes and Watson are right in character, in my opinion. A good read.
I'm enjoying all of Maurice Barkley's Sherlock Holmes stories so far. I hope there are more to come.
Fairly good story and it keeps your interest. However two minor errors distract from the story. First, one of the towns that keeps being referred to is called Oakhampton. It later becomes Oak Hampton only to become Oakhampton in the end. Second, nowhere in the original Conan Doyle stories and novels or in the over one hundred pastiches I have read did I ever see Inspector Lestrade's name spelled Lestrad.
What a load of rubbish.
OAK HAMPTON!! The place is called OKEHAMPTON. LIDFORD! It is called Lydford. Dartmoor FORREST. The word is forest.
There was never any such thing as the Great Western Railroad Company. It was the Great Western Railway Company.
British trains don't need engineers to drive them, they have drivers.
You don't sally FOURTH, you sally FORTH (go out).
The line from Plymouth to Okehampton was not GWR, but Southern.
And the thought that some small group of people could lay an extension on a branch line siding, and for three years no one noticed!
Not to be touched with a bargepole.
